HE DID IT!!! M.A.S.K. Trainer Jamahl Now a 10 x World Kickboxing Champion…At Age 20!!!
Trier, Germany was the location for this years World Kickboxing and Karate Union World Championships.
With over 2,200 registered entrees, this years event was the biggest and most fiercely fought to date. M.A.S.K. trainer Jamahl Golland, at age only 20 was on a mission to prove that last years wins in his adult categories were no fluke – and wow, he did that in some serious style!
On Day 1 of competing Jamahl was in his least favourite category – points fighting – akin to fencing with punches and kicks. This is not Jamahl’s forte but nonetheless he dispatched of opponents from Northern Ireland and Team USA en route to Thursday’s final against USA legend Jack Felton.
Day 2 saw Jamahl competing in his best 2 disciplines Continuous and Kick Light, defending his titles that he won last year in Rhodes. Both categories allowing punches and kicks in a continuous fighting format, unlike point fighting. The only difference between these 2 disciplines is that in Kick Light you can also kick to the legs. As the 2024 reigning champion in both disciplines, Jamahl received a bye to the semi final stages where he fought the Northern Ireland champion in Kick light and the Republic of Ireland champion in continuous.
Jamahl was absolutely on fire, seemingly effortlessly dispatching of his opponents in a fast paced flurry of high placed kicks, punches and cat like footwork which earned him spots in 2 more finals on Friday 31st October – Halloween 👻
Final’s Days!
On Thursday 30th October Jamahl competed in the points fighting final against USA legend Jack Felton. No lies, no excuses, Jamahl came up short against a very seasoned points fighter who in his time has beaten everyone at the very highest level. This was a repeat of last years final and the same result, however a much better performance from Jamahl who is definitely closing the gap on his American opponent.
On Friday 31st October – Halloween – Jamahl had 2 finals. In the Continuous division he fought the German International Open champion Maik Barutzki, a fierce and high calibre opponent who easily dispatched fighters in his half of the draw en route to the final. This promised to be an intense clash between Barutzki, aged 21 and Jamahl at only 20 – both huge talents in a very tough sport. This was where Jamahl truly came alive and in a very 1 sided and utterly dominant performance he came out a 3-0 unanimous winner. Jamahl’s 1st Gold of the day and World title number 8!
In the Kick Light final, Jamahl came across the same Republic of Ireland opponent he defeated in the Continuous semi final match. Again, despite the opponents high calibre, Jamahl was truly on Fire 🔥, winning by a unanimous 3-0 margin. Jamahl even pulled out the spectacular jumping spinning kick (as seen in the photo above) to the crowds delight. Gold number 2, World Title number 9!
There was one more twist…the 3 – man team Continuous final between Team Germany and Team England! This was held at the professional fight night show held on the same evening. Team England won by 2 wins and 1 draw, with Jamahl completely dominating his very game opponent Sebastian Sanchez in a totally 1 sided bout. That was Gold number 3 – and now a 10 x World Champion!
What next?
Next years championships will be even bigger yet and will be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Jamahl has so many goals and so much left to achieve, his main focus is to simply stay hungry and train like a challenger, never a champion.
