DNA Testing…Could This Have Prevented My Cancer?

Ok, to some readers…my question may read as controversial, maybe even slightly disrespectful, especially if either your loved ones or yourselves are currently battling cancer. Please understand, this absolutely is NOT my intention. I’m not in any way taking away from the awesome work that Dr’s and researchers do on a day to day basis.

On my journey as a Health, Fitness and Wellness professional, I’ve studied for many years to understand the “Why” behind everything. My cancer journey is no different and for someone who drinks filtered water, eats organic foods, exercises regularly whilst practicing mindfulness and gratitude, I wanted to know WHY the universe chose me to have cancer when on the outside it appeared that I was doing everything to prevent this awful disease.

To make things even more complicated, there isn’t even a detailed history of cancer in either sides of my family, so you can imagine my intense curiosity to learn more, much more…so we did.

Earlier this year my husband and I studied and became DNALife Practitioners. DNALife is a company run by Nordic Laboratories who are on the cutting edge of bringing DNA testing in to the public domain. This allows regular people like us to examine our DNA for several key areas such as Oestrogen, Diet, Sport & Exercise, Health, Mind and Pain, which can help to target areas which may be problematic , whilst creating everyday workable strategies and solutions which optimise health and wellness.

What I found out in my report (see photo below) pointed out possibly the main factor contributing to my cancer. Had I not had the test, I would never have known.

What My Test Revealed

The above infographic shows how my body’s preferred oestrogen pathways were blocked, hence my excess Oestrogen had no safe nor effective escape route. If not addressed, in females this can lead to a much greater risk of developing breast cancer and in males, prostatic cancer.

The above was my result from my DNA Oestrogen report but I had certain similar findings in other areas examined. Had I known this in advance and followed the individual nutrition and supplement regime supported by these findings, it’s possible that I may have prevented my breast cancer or at very least delayed it for many years.

The application of knowledge is true power which is why at M.A.S.K. we are getting behind DNA testing in a huge way as the impact that this can have on preventative health and life quality simply can’t be put in to words!

So What Next?

On Friday 5th May I had my first of seven rounds of chemotherapy at the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford. I followed a very detailed and prescribed supplement regime which has been designed to maximise the effects of chemotherapy whilst minimising the side effects. So far, so good. The day after the chemotherapy I felt like I had a hangover without drinking, but by day 2 (Sunday 7th May) I was back in the studio exercising and doing pull ups (see video below).

Day 2 Post Chemotherapy Pull Ups!

Chemotherapy isn’t pleasant but it’s not at all what I expected. The oncology wards are not full of Ghostly looking people vomiting, in my experience they are full of positive, happy souls all looking to beat a shared enemy. The anti sickness drugs WORK! Furthermore, the supplements that were prescribed in accordance with my DNA report…I’m taking those everyday as supplements which help unblock my Oestrogen pathways can only be beneficial as my HER2+ cancer is fed predominantly by Oestrogen.

Cancer is a muti faceted disease which requires a muti faceted solution!

What excites me now is how many beautiful people and their families I will be able to help once I’m out the other side.

Until then I’ll keep smiling and updating. If anyone has been touched by my post or would simply like to know more about the DNA testing that we can perform, simply respond to this email.
